SooperMexican over at The Right Scoop calls Nancy Pelosi the first chupacabra voted to the House of Representatives. I heartily agree with that assessment and so would her face it would seem. On MSNBC yesterday, she was asked about those in the Democratic Party who want to see her step down. Watching her face is priceless. It looked like she had both a brain AND a facial aneurysm. It was bizarre to say the least. MSNBC host Joy Reid discussed with Pelosi the hopes of Democrats in 2018 to win back a majority in the House of Representatives. Reid is a Bernista. Not a good start.
“There is still a contingent on the left side of the Democratic Party — and it’s ironic because you are also a liberal member of the party — that would like to see you ousted as leader,” Reid said. That was when the aneurysm came and went. Add that to rumors of being addled and you begin to see where age is weighing Pelosi down. She may be a juggernaut at raising money, but Alzheimer’s doesn’t care about that fact.
“If the Democrats were to retake the House, do you foresee a challenge to your leadership?” Reid asked. “With all due respect, I disagree with your characterization,” Pelosi said. “I have [the] overwhelming support of my caucus. There are some people there who disagree with me, and that’s OK, but I would not say that it’s a challenge from the left, because I am on the left.” But the fact is, many on the left don’t see her as far enough to the left for their tastes. They want a raving communist at the helm, like Sanders.
Pelosi was quick to change the subject to Republicans using her progressive politics against her; a recent example was the special House election in Georgia when the GOP successfully tied Democrat Jon Ossoff to Pelosi, who is nationally unpopular. But the Republicans didn’t need to… her own party was doing that to her as well. Pelosi also said that others challenging her is all about “ambition.” That’s true, but it’s also about age. The average age in the Democratic Party is in the mid-70s. They are too old for the tastes of their constituency anymore. They want young, fresh blood for the revolution.
High-ranking Democratic Rep. Linda Sanchez (D-CA) recently said that Pelosi should step aside, along with fellow party leaders Rep. Steny Hoyer (D-ND) and James Clyburn (D-SC). Other Democrats have also called for Pelosi to move on in what MSNBC called an “ugly divide” in the party. Pelosi has defended herself as a “master legislator” in the past after calls for her ouster. Many want to see her stay for the simple reason she is a woman, which is just bitingly stupid. It’s time for Pelosi to exit stage left before the rest of her melts down.
