This is a day that most who remember the horrific murders in the 60’s by the Manson Family thought would never come. All of them were sent away for life in California. They received the death penalty for their butchery. Now, Leslie Van Houten, after more than 40 years in prison, has been granted parole. Charles Manson must be smiling. She’s now 68 years-old. She took part in the 1969 killings of grocer Leno and Rosemary LaBianca. The LaBianca murders were notoriously gruesome. She was convicted and became the youngest woman ever sentenced to death in California. However, executions were halted in the state in 1972 after the California Supreme Court ruled that the death penalty was unconstitutional in The People of the State of California v. Robert Page Anderson. In a third trial, she was convicted and sentenced to life in prison, with a possibility of parole.
A two-member panel granted Van Houten parole. They stated that she had radically changed in prison and turned her life around. She received both a Bachelor’s and a Master’s degree while incarcerated, as well as operating a counseling clinic for other female prisoners. That does not change the fact that she was and probably still is murderously insane. She adored Charles Manson and vowed to do anything for that demon. And she did. This is her second parole. The first one was struck down by Governor Jerry Brown in 2016. He now has 120 days to reverse the parole board’s decision or take action on this. Let’s pray he does so.
Gov. Brown reversed the first parole for Van Houten after determining her progress as an inmate remained overshadowed by her horrendous crimes, according to the Los Angeles Times. That’s an understatement. “[The] shocking nature of the crimes left an indelible mark on society,” said Brown after the first parole denial. He said the motive for the killings, to trigger a race war, “by slaughtering innocent people chosen at random — is equally disturbing.”
“I feel absolutely horrible about it, and I have spent most of my life trying to find ways to live with it,” Van Houten told the panel in Chino, California. “To tell you the truth, the older I get, the harder it is to deal with all of this, to know what I did, how it happened.” She should feel horrible and there is no way to ‘deal with all of this’. That’s between her and God and I very much doubt he will be charitable towards her.
Due to the age of Van Houten, since she was the youngest Manson acolyte, she is viewed as the least culpable. Leftists call her “misguided.” I call her evil. They also blame her drug use and LSD for her behavior at the time of the murders. She held a pillowcase over the head of Rosemary LaBianca as others stabbed her dozens of times. She was then ordered by Manson follower Charles “Tex” Watson to “do something,” at which point she took a butcher knife and stabbed Rosemary 12 more times.
The rest of the Manson Family remains in prison serving life sentences. Several have been denied parole multiple times. “I don’t let myself off the hook,” Van Houten said at the last parole hearing. “I don’t find parts in any of this that makes me feel the slightest bit good about myself.” You don’t rehabilitate a butcher like this. She willingly slaughtered people and she enjoyed it. Would you want this woman in your neighborhood? Even Gov. Brown, the moonbat that he is, knows better than to grant this woman parole. Let her serve the rest of her days behind bars. It’s a far kinder fate than her victims were subjected to.
