On Wednesday, President Donald Trump signed an executive order threatening to cut federal grants for cities and counties which do not cooperate fully with Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
Well, it took less than 24 hours for the Mayor of Miami-Dade, Florida, to cave.
Mayor Carlos A. Gimenez on Thursday ordered county jails to comply with Trump’s order regarding illegal immigrants, effectively ending the Sanctuary City Policy in Miami-Dade.
Gimenez’s crucial decision will ensure that the millions of dollars of federal aid which his city counts on will continue to pour in.
Since 2013, Miami-Dade has refused to indefinitely detain inmates who are in the country illegally and wanted by ICE, but that stops now.
