Liberals Heads Spinning After NASA Releases New Images ‘Antarctica is GROWING, Not Shrinking’

By  |

For the last decade or so, liberals have been whining about climate change, and citing the “destruction” of Antarctica as their evidence. New reports, however, have completely destroyed this argument…

Antarctica is growing not shrinking, according to the latest study from NASA. Furthermore, instead of contributing to rising sea levels, the still-very-much-frozen southern continent is actually reducing them by 0.23 mm per year.

antarctica-ice-640x480

The study – by an organization not hitherto noted for playing down environmental scares – will come as a major blow climate alarmists.  For decades, they have cited Antarctica as one of the bellwethers of global warming catastrophe and have claimed – as the IPCC’s most recent Assessment Report did – that its land ice mass was slowly melting into the sea.

But the satellite measurements used in the latest NASA report tell a different story. Unlike previous studies – many largely based on guesswork because the continent is so vast and inhospitable, meaning that data is extremely limited – they use satellite altimeters to calculate changes in the surface height of the ice. What they show is that the amount of ice lost by glaciers collapsing into the sea has been exceeded by the gain in ice mass from accumulated snow.

According to the new analysis of satellite data, the Antarctic ice sheet showed a net gain of 112 billion tons of ice a year from 1992 to 2001. That net gain slowed to 82 billion tons of ice per year between 2003 and 2008.

Among those alarmists trying to put a brave face on the shocking news is the report’s lead author Jay Zwally. Like so many of his colleagues at NASA’s Goddard Institute of Space Studies (GISS), Zwally has fought heroically over the years to promote the climate change scare narrative – and he’s not about to give up now.

“I know some of the climate deniers will jump on this, and say this means we don’t have to worry as much as some people have been making out,” he says. “It should not take away from the concern about climate warming.” As global temperatures rise, Antarctica is expected to contribute more to sea-level rise, though when exactly that effect will kick in, and to what extent, remains unclear.

What do you think about this? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section.

With everyone soooo serious lately – how about a little comic relief? The Flipside with Michael Loftus makes fun of Joseph Clancy, the head of the secret service. This is one of the funniest skits I have ever seen. With Barack Obama heading out the door, maybe the Secret Service will finally get their act together! If not, Donald Trump will have to say, “You’re Fired!”

The idiots that support Agenda 21 to enforce laws and taxation onto the human race that it’s for the better of the planet and mankind will never relinquish their indoctrination. It’s been obvious and as easy as walking outside and understanding that it’s cold sometimes and it’s hot sometimes. It’s great that climatologists have something to do and it’s fascinating what they conclude, but man made Global Warming is a farce perpetrated by Agenda 21, don’t be a fool.

How do you expect anyone with common sense to believe in Global Warming? Either you’re a Communist pig that will believe anything their Government tells them, or you’re f u c k i n g stupid.

AntiGreen – The Earth’s climate is predicated by conditions in more than one location. It’s easy to fixate on one section of the world and say “SEE, it’s getting colder here!” but that doesn’t look at the big picture. Average global temperatures are increasing at rates that do not coincide with what climatologists expect or with the historical charts that both 100+ years of study, and geologic bores have created. Globally, humans are presently responsible for an additional 20 gigatons of CO2 but is trending exponentially higher. A big counter argument to that is that the world produces its own CO2 and that it balances out with plants and vegetation…and it did, but our 20GTons is throwing that balance off.

I’m not going to go into a source citing rage because most people don’t look at them, but there is a lot of information available for someone interested in deciding for themselves. If, after you’ve done your own research, you still think this article is correct, that’s fine. But if you want to be intellectually honest with yourself, you can’t dismiss the notion until you’ve looked at both sides.

Just one quick citation for the 20GT stat

100 year study? so how accurate were the studies in 1915? how accurate were they in 1815? you can certainly make a case for advancements in Science, but you can’t tell me that today, it’s just settled. Humans are the cause of CO2 increases? You really can’t prove that, but if you input the right information into your model, you will get the results you’re PAID to achieve. I suppose you want to tell me that the Sun revolves around the Earth next? If your results prove that, then it’s settled Science. The studies I’ve read are clearly showing that CO2 come after temperature spikes, they do not precede it. The United Nations along with the King’s of the Free World would love to have us living huddled into Urban communes with 24/7 video surveillance along with outlawing in type of Rural living or free thought. The Arctic and Antarctic are both enlarging their depth and circumference. Florida was supposed to be underwater by now, according to your Global Warming God, Al “I’m a hypocrite” Gore.

Yes, we have been tracking global temperatures for more than 100 years. Mercury thermometers have been in existence for over 300 years.

There is a distinct difference between natural CO2 and CO2 from rapid temperature increases and burning. Specifically the Carbon-12 and Carbon-13 Isotopes exist in differing concentrations depending on whether CO2 is from a natural process or from burning. Carbon-13 is more common in the atmosphere than in fossil fuels, however the concentration in the atmosphere is steadily moving toward a pure Carbon-12 solution vs a ~12%/88% mixture.

It takes a minute to decipher, but this study is worth reading even if only to use as a “I’ve considered the other side” argument

Never seen it, and I’m not a liberal or a fan of Al Gore. Anyway discovery is rarely the result of debate or argument, it usually arises in the presence of an inquisitive mind so I won’t press any further points. I don’t know if global warming is 100% validated but there is a lot.of evidence that supports it. All I’ll leave with is that immediate dismissal of an idea as ‘fictional’, especially one grounded so heavily in the scientific community, is not a great platform to speak so boisterously from without scientific claims of your own

              • Antigreen2008

                Nov 10, 2015 at 7:15 am

“however the concentration in the atmosphere is steadily moving toward a pure Carbon-12 solution vs a ~12%/88% mixture.” And what was the pure Carbon-12 solution 100 years ago? 500 years ago? 2,000 years ago? You don’t know, nobody knows, and if you want claim that “Science” again is settled because they “speculate” what the numbers were, again, it’s nothing more than Fiction. Science is fascinating, but it’s not exact as the Scientific community would like to believe. If you don’t realize that Scientists around the World have been funded to conclude that man is polluting the planet into a Global Warming disaster, than you’re just fooling yourself. It’s about a narrative to push an Agenda that is nothing more than a facade.

This article is deceptive. Antarctica is STILL losing ice on it’s perimiter at an alarming rate. THAT is what is going to lend itself to rising sea levels. The increase in snow accumulation INLAND on the continent is the result of increased atmospheric moisture and will lend itself to future glacial activity and melting.

Ha, I’m glad you hold no real power in the world. Humanity caught a bullet that fateful day you weren’t a blow job. Keep being a close-minded dumbass: nothing you say or do will ever mean anything remotely important in the big picture anyway and the world will forget all about you when your heart stops; that is, assuming it ever realized you even existed. Thankfully, the educated people that are capable of at least humoring an idea, respecting its opposition, being capable of changing its mindset through valid evidence will do more in this world than just simply breaking through that cheap worn-out latex barrier your daddy had tucked away in his wallet all year long when he met mommy. But hey, Jim Billy Bob. Keep being you. Those whose heads aren’t squishy need -something- to laugh at. So your purpose isn’t ENTIRELY a useless burden! Gotta stay positive. 🙂

Ok, let’s get something straight. The ice on the ocean (as opposed to the ice on the land) is floating in the water, some above and most below the water level. When the ice chunks break off the main shelf, they are still floating in the water. Have you ever put ice in a glass with a beverage? What happens when the ice melts? Does the glass overflow? No, the level of the water stays constant, because of two principles. Displacement, which means the ice has already replaced an amount of water equal to the mass of the ice, and the fact that water expands when it freezes (which is why ice floats). The ice in the water has already made the level of the water what it is; melting that ice will not change the level of the water. And the thickness of the land ice is increasing, which means the temps haven’t raised, as snow is still falling and still not melting.

People that know they’re wrong but can’t accept it, tend to act like this pissy little antigreen character. This article is a conservative SPIN on NASA facts. http://www.nasa.gov/feature/goddard/nasa-study-mass-gains-of-antarctic-ice-sheet-greater-than-losses Read the WHOLE article, not just the part that suits your agenda. “The good news is that Antarctica is not currently contributing to sea level rise, but is taking 0.23 millimeters per year away,” Zwally said. “But this is also bad news. If the 0.27 millimeters per year of sea level rise attributed to Antarctica in the IPCC report is not really coming from Antarctica, there must be some other contribution to sea level rise that is not accounted for.” Maybe it’s your friend Puff the Magic Dragon, eh, AntiGreen? shakes my head. Some people’s parents…
