Boycott Subway! It’s the national pastime

By  |

It seems that Michelle Obama is now a spokesperson for Subway and guess what? People are screaming for a boycott of the sandwich chain.

[quote_box_center]

WASHINGTON — Michelle Obama has a new partner in her campaign to get kids to eat more fruits and vegetables.

The Subway sandwich chain will spend $41 million over three years to encourage them to eat more food that doesn’t come from a box, the first lady announced Thursday at one of the Connecticut-based company’s restaurants just north of the White House.

Subway will also offer a kids’ menu that mirrors federal standards for school lunches…

[/quote_box_center]

We did a little research on the Subway boycott before launching into a screed about never eating there again. We’re not fond of Michelle, and that puts our feelings nicely. The idea of staring at her while eating lunch, well, we find that to be a sure weight loss aid.

Or research turned up some interesting things. Boycotts make for very strange bedfellows.

If you know anything about the “Freepers” you won’t be surprised to learn that they’re all-in for a Subway boycott for as long as the First Lady’s picture is hanging in the building. We really have no comment on pretty much anything the Freepers do, so there’s no reason to break with history.

Back in September of last year, a group of lefty fruitcakes called Working Washington called for a Subway boycott because a shop reportedly fired a “worker” for advocating for a $15 /hr minimum wage.

[quote_box_center]

Working Washington points out that this is an easy problem for Subway & Zeer, Inc. to solve: “We don’t expect them to start paying workers $15/hour tomorrow; they simply need to stop retaliating and give Carlos his job back. Until they do so, they can expect ongoing pickets, leaflets, protests, and other outreach to customers.”

[/quote_box_center]

We don’t see pickets in front of pretty much anything here in Arizona. We’re a Right-to-Work state and it’s always safe to assume that everybody is carrying a firearm in just about any public venue. An armed society is a polite society.

Back in July of 2013 there was a group of folks who were really upset that Subway advertised on Rush Limbaugh.

[quote_box_center]

I was sad last week to discover Subway advertises on Rush Limbaugh. I’m a vegetarian who travels absurd amounts, so I love Subway.

Yet I rather support local shops than a national chain that funds hate radio. Over 2,600 advertisers have stopped supporting Rush Limbaugh’s shows, and Subway should follow suit.

[/quote_box_center]

This one took a particularly interesting turn. It seems the author of the above is the founder of a Twitter group called #UniteBlue, his name is Zach Green. A board member of #UniteBlue happened to be one Bill Talley of Nashville.

[quote_box_center]

Detective Chad Gish testified to THOUSANDS of images and videos William Talley had in his possession, including children as young as THREE . . .

Detective Gish also testified to credit card receipts found on Talley’s PC as proof he had been buying access to child pornography . . .

[/quote_box_center]

Oh well, those crazy lefties…

Our final find – and we’re positive there are lots more, we just got tired of looking – is this Facebook page demanding a Subway boycott.

[quote_box_center]

Boycott Subway for supporting Michael Vick

[/quote_box_center]

You get the idea. We’re pretty sure that boycotting Subway is becoming the national pastime. The collective boycotts also don’t seem to have done a whole lot of damage to the chain.

We’re especially enthralled with the idea that the chain advertises on Rush and has Michelle as a sort-of-spokesperson. They’re either working really hard to appeal to everyone or to piss off as many people as possible.

Subway is a very consumer-trend savvy outfit. They were pushing “eating healthy” before it was a theme for fast food. We have to question their decision making process on this one though. While having a First Lady as a spokesperson will get them lots of free publicity but we’re not sure it’s the kind they want.

[quote_box_center]

Subway will also offer a kids’ menu that mirrors federal standards for school lunches…

[/quote_box_center]

That’s not a tag we would want associated with our restaurant, given this kind of exposure.

[quote_box_center]

New York’s Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake school district has become the latest casualty in first lady Michelle Obama’s preferred lunch plan, dropping the menu after too many students complained of hunger.

“[Food service manager Nicky] Boehm and her staff worked hard to implement the new regulations, but there were just too many problems and too many foods that students did not like and would not purchase,”

[/quote_box_center]

Oh well.

We would urge you to follow your heart in this matter, The Curmudgeons discussed the boycott over our spicy Italian subs last night and decided we’d put off a decision. We’ll probably discuss it again over a roast beef sub.

If you’d like to participate in the boycott, have at it, we love the 1st Amendment. We’d just note that we sincerely hope that you’re not mistaken for a #UniteBlue member.

  • Corky Rathbun

welp, i wont eat there,,, moochelle has done nothing but ruin school lunches !!

  • therain

any involvement with mooch or the lying kenya automatically means a boycott

  • Tony2000s

Anybody or any entity that supports an Obama has me for an enemy. Until Subway drops Obama I will have nothing to do with them.

  • Jim Hise

Yep! Can’t stand the thought of eating anything and having to look at this witches face at the same time. Won’t purchase anything from Subway. If things go as it seems, we in my small town will get rid of Subway. No one will eat there.

  • Julieb615

It appears that Subway invites controversy by their choices. I don’t boycott, I just never eat their because their subs are skimpy, the rolls too big for the amount of filling. Three slices of meat I could read a newspaper through, and having to get various veggies I’d really rather not have, instead of being able to get the same amount of my favorite 4 is silly. I only did it once and have never been back. (BTW, don’t make a face when a customer orders no mayo, no dressing, no oil. With adequate meat and veggies it’s the way I like it.)

  • Jina Harrell

Well I won’t have to worry about seeing her face because I WON’ T BE eating there. Didn’t really like Subway all that much anyway, like it even LESS now.

  • Ernest Lewis

    WHEN SHE’S GONE I WII BE BACK………….LATER

  • thomaspainelives

Wonder where that idiot got the figure of 2600 advertisers leaving Rush. He seems unworried about the potential loss of revenue. Oh wait, there haven’t been that many who left and Rush has gotten more than the lost numbers back. I rarely eat at Subway but I find boycotts are losing situations. I’d rather do “buycotts”.

    • Linda Robinson

Seriously this is outrageous and in very bad taste lashing out at Rush. And in support of the worst first lady in history. Are her and Obama really married? Or just for show. You have to wonder. When is the last time that they were seen together. Are the kids really his?

      • DrColostomy

Regie Love likes to put the meat between obama’s buns.

      • J J

Shes a man and hes gay

  • Teresa Crisp

Tired of having the obamas litterally shoved down our throats, good bye subway!

  • Michael Hicks

We want Jarred back…The average american persona who actually did something positive in his life with Subway. Michelle will start challenging their menu you just wait….
    Send her back
to Hawaii and have start a chain of Poi restaurants or something!

    • Gene Nash

      THEY DON’T WANT HER !

    • Paul McCoy

No way do we want any of them in Hawaii! You lolo cuz? :)

  • http://JESUSCHRISTad.ws/ kirk czuhai

i don’t eat there as often once i found their foot long was a lie!!!!!!!! liers=republicans=democrats=corporations=lobbyists=mainstream media=lovers of money=root of all evil NO VOTES FOR ANY OF THEM !!!!!!!http://hereitis.ws/VOTEOUT.txt !!!!!!!!

    • MeanieHead

You have to be some kind of schmoe. “Lovers of money”? Really? Who doesn’t love money? It takes money to do everything. You have to have some money unless you live on a deserted island in the middle of the ocean with a monkey named Bob.

  • Don Sebold

    Chik fillet…..

  • ps

never eat there again!!! Any organization that would align theirselves with these criminals and murderers will not get another penny of my money!!!!!

    • Linda Robinson

What was this about PS I haven’t hear about this.

  • Barbara Finger

as much as I enjoy Subway tuna sandwiches and the meatball I guess I will boycott cuz I can’t stand either Obama nor do I agree with what she’s done to kids lunches – some state is saying no to them as kids are not eating the lunches and are therefore tired and hungry

  • deckcats

The idea is to ENHANCE your customers’ appetites, not NAUSEATE them. Until you disassociate yourself with moochie, Good bye Subway.

  • wbedwards

I seldom go to Subway and it has nothing to do with the current flavor of the month that Subway’s endorsing. It has to do with skimpier portions and raising prices. There are a number of Deil style Sandwich shops that offer much better quality items for less or similar prices. Supporting local eateries helps keep my dollars in my community. Shop local and at the home grown establishments.

  • roymcwhorter@sbcglobal.net

Subway and Michelle both turn my stomach.

  • suzn123

There food is NOT all that healthy!!!!

  • RightUnite

Ick! I surely won’t want to order a sandwich with her ugly mug looking on! Yuck!

  • Me

Haven’t liked Subway in a long time. Like most things, their products have gotten smaller, and their prices have gone up. USED to really like them. Now, there are so many other choices for eating at least semi-healthy that cost less…I’ll just continue to stay away from them.

  • rwjones61

I’m with the boycott. Goodbye Subway hello Penn Station and JJ. I can’t support anything the Obamas are involved with. I will be back when the Obamas are gone. Maybe

    • MeanieHead

      Jimmy Johns sucks too.

  • Timothy Isabell

Subway used to be pretty good, now they suck. I would rather eat a meal with a bucket of hogs–t sitting next to me than to than to have to look at moochs face ! Good bye subway .

  • Gary Bryant

Rush Limbaugh is TRUTH radio and if you interpret TRUTH as hate then you simply hate TRUTH. Would you rather he follow the example of your father Obama AND LIE THROUGH HIS TEETH just to make you feel comfortable? I think not!

  • Gary Bryant

I love Subway but like many who object to conservative wisdom and always threaten to boycott this and that if their people are not included in this position (higher level) or shown in a more favorable light in movies and TV (ie. NAACP, La Raza, Mecha etc.) I will now BOYCOTT Subway for their association with the Michelle Obama who is not deserving of any favorable light.

  • sunny

I have HAD ENOUGH of obama SHOVING THINGS DOWN OUR THROATS!!!
    I AM SICK OF IT!!
WHEN IS Congress GOING TO DO SOMETHING???

  • LST

“First Lady,” HA HA that’s a really sick joke.

  • Don

    NO MORE SUBWAY FOR ME

  • Stephen Tompkins

it’s probably the only thing I have ever agreed with as far as the Obama’s go. They are not advocating anything but eating healthy so I see no reason to trash this. Many more important things to get upset about such as Home Despot supporting/insisting on Homosexual Activity as a right in public. (it’s a choice and what you do at home IS your business but don’t tell me I have to like it)

  • DrColostomy

Just seeing that lardassed cow’s picture makes me want to vomit. Hmmm, maybe I’ll stop by Subway and vomit on the counter.

  • peterskm

Moochelle Obama obviously knows nothing about healthy eating. I will not allow her to dictate to me what I and my children should or shouldn’t eat. We were eating a long time before Obama made the national scene. Subway should reconsider their decision to add that woman’s picture and advice to their brand!

    • Francie

ESPECIALLY since Ms. Moo herself has grown an even LARGER backside now than previously seen in any pictures.

  • alnga

Our local Subways are doing a land office business and we help to support that effort. i love their sandwiches. Now as to our grossly over weight first lady maybe she needs to slim down a little and lay off those juicy burgers that are fat laden.

  • Christopher Wilhelm

    Guess it’s Jimmie John’s time!!

  • beckncall

I do not need the 1st woman telling me about healthy choices. They are in our business enough as it is……..speaking of business Subway has just lost mine over this. Will not be back! The only thing I want from her is a goodbye wave when she and the President leave the White House forever.

  • Deborah Lundy

How about everyone just boycott moochelle instead. That would simplify things a lot. The way I see it the businesses really don’t have much of a choice in the matter if they want to stay in business.

  • Mindmech

I will not support Subway in this endeavor. Subway was doing well without the witches help.

  • PreacherPhil

There goes the last healthy fast food for me. Will not go there to see Michelle.

  • Kevin Clark

I messaged them last night and told them they have lost a customer and once its over I may or may not be back, and that there are several companies that I simple do not spend my money at for doing stupid crap like this, Also there are plenty of competitors including local delis and every supermarket.

  • Lab Mama

I live in a small, rural town. Our school district includes 1 elementary, 1 middle and 1 high school, with total student enrollment of about 1,500. We adopted Mooch’s lunch standards at the beginning of the 2012-2013 school year; by year end we had lost $60,000 and abandoned the ill-conceived plan.

We also have a Subway restaurant in town… for now. I doubt they will fare any better than the schools did, and I feel sorry for any individual franchisees who are being forced to participate against their better judgement.

  • Glenn Selan

Not all Subway franchises are taking part in using Moochelle’s face in there store, my guess is it’s mostly the corporate owned stores, the one I go to said there not doing it.

  • DoodleBug

I love Subway, but seriously how stupid to put “Miss Bad School Lunch” as their spokesperson.

  • Timothy Gilbert

I find it rather obscured that we are going about things the way we are these days. I was born in 1963 where we had morals as a nation and people, now most in our nation are being mistreated as Americans, the food we eat is far from what we should be worried about in these times.Over weight people have been around for years and they will be around for many more if you don’t like it then get over it and move on, don’t try to be advocates for the less fortunate that haven’t a lot of money to feed them selves properly, like the white house does their is only one judge in the universe we all know who that is so don’t be stupid and think you are helping people when all you are doing is making standards for our nation and personally I don’t think it is anyone’s job. We have one life to live ” I say live it the way you want in peace and Harmony and know that in the end you had fun.” Subway you suck for supporting dog fighting.

  • EQ4ALL

Personally, I believe the Michelle Obama Campaign for VP has their fingers in this. Think about it. Subway has the most stores of any fast food in the world, documented last year. Talk about exposure for a campaign; how about having a captive audience staring at her face for 20-30 minutes every time they eat there!!! NOW, if they put up a photo of Hillary my theory will be proven….along with my appetite!!!

  • disqus_gMuU2R7rO8

We normally get subway for the super bowl, it’s tradition…..We will be making our own this year and boy are they good….

  • Redhotchilli Pepper
  • Pat McNees

My new diet plan: Go to Subway–see Moochies gorilla-like visage–vomit. Voila! And as a bonus, I saved $5!

  • Richard Magnuson

I won’t eat at an establishment who is supporting and in bed with a person who is intent on destroying America. There is a difference in this instance verses the others cited in the article.

  • Gunnerasch

I used to eat at Subway at least once a week. Used to. As long as Moochell is hanging on the wall…Ill eat a $5 pizza

  • Arlene Roth Loughrey

no subway for me!!!! hope you enjoy mooochelle

  • wildman

why doesn’t subway spend 41 mil and put some fukin meat on their sorry ass sandwiches??

  • guest

Walmart is also supporting Michelle Obama’s eat healthy campaign. Are y’all gonna start a Walmart boycott?

  • Andi Larson

Watch out subway stores Moochelle likes expensive vacations every month. Tie up your corporate jets or you will find one missing.

  • talentscout

Hate having to look at the face of that lying cow. Send her back to DC. Can’t stand the sight of her.

  • talentscout

She is bad luck to a good hunting dog.
